“Keep inside pain and guilt” is a ceramic piece illustrating the scenes of mothers comforting and distracting their children from the war in Ukraine. It’s describing mothers’ experience and their ability to ignore their own feelings of guilt and pain in order to protect, soothe, and take care of their children. This piece was inspired by my sister who is also a mom, her
experience of dealing with the war’s consequences and the ways it affected her life. I wanted to describe her and millions of other Ukrainians’ experience of living in a country where there is a war and where you are never safe, but your life keeps going and you have no other option than to pretend like everything is normal, in order to create an illusion of a normal life for you and your family.
